either of the two imaginary parallel lines (latitudes) that run around the surface of the earth and enclose the regions north and south of the equator, or the region enclosed by these lines (the latter often used as "tropics");

e.g. On this map, a dotted line represents a tropic and the solid line represents the equator. Areas in the tropics often have hot weather all year round.

relating to the regions surrounding the Earth's equator, especially in terms of having very hot and humid climate;

e.g. We thought a vacation and some tropic weather would be a nice change from the winter cold.
